Qualifying for the Olympic Trials and winning an event like the Naples Daily News Half Marathon are all the more impressive considering distance running is not Pezzullo's first sport. After growing up in Rhode Island, Pezzullo played soccer at Penn State before playing five years professionally with the Charlotte Eagles of the United Soccer League.
